Consulting for Sustainable Prosperity
PROJECTS with PURPOSE
At GEFF, some of our ideas sit beyond our current day-to-day operations — and that’s intentional. While not all are active initiatives today, they represent the direction we believe truly matters. Projects with Purpose brings together future-focused themes where thoughtful innovation, local knowledge, and collaboration can help shape a more resilient, self-sufficient Cook Islands.
These ideas are informed by our experience in tourism, food systems, and island environments, and align closely with the Cook Islands’ national sustainability priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals — particularly around climate change mitigation, adaptation, and long-term sustainable prosperity.
Our aim is to turn the right ideas into real-world projects by working alongside organisations, institutions, and investors who share this vision. We are open to partnerships, advisory roles, and project-based work where we can apply our skills and experience to deliver meaningful impact, while building sustainable, income-generating initiatives for GEFF and our partners across the Cook Islands and the wider Pacific.

IN ACTION
In Action highlights projects that are currently underway. Ideas that have moved from concept into implementation, testing, or active development. These initiatives reflect where GEFF is already engaged, contributing practical expertise, coordination, and strategic thinking.
Each project responds to a real, identified need and is grounded in local context, feasibility, and long-term value. They represent our commitment to doing the work. Learning by doing, adapting along the way, and building solutions that are relevant, responsible, and scalable.
Bottled Sunshine Hot Sauce
At the heart of Bottled Sunshine is our commitment to sustainability. We experiment with natural and organic growing techniques, using biochar in our soil mix to enhance plant health. By avoiding harmful fertilizers and especially pesticides, we protect our waterways and lagoon. Bottled Sunshine isn’t just about great flavour; it’s about preserving the environment and fostering community connection.
Our hot sauce is made from 100% locally grown habanero chilis that ripen to perfection under the tropical sun in Titikaveka and Matavera. We’ve crafted this product to bring a little piece of the islands into homes around the world. It’s more than just a sauce. It’s a way to extend the Rarotongan experience beyond a visitor’s stay, allowing people to taste the islands even after they’ve returned home.

Biochar
At Waterfoot House, we’ve been experimenting with a small, non-commercial biochar reactor as part of a pilot project aimed at enhancing climate resilience. We’ve treated a signature lawn with locally produced biochar to test its ability to withstand the extended droughts that often affect our winter months. Traditionally, these lawns lose their lush green colour and turn sandy brown under dry conditions. By incorporating biochar into the soil, we aim to improve moisture retention, reducing the need for irrigation during drought periods. Biochar is a powerful tool in climate change adaptation: it acts as a carbon sink, can be activated with local nutrients such as manure or seaweed, and serves as an excellent soil conditioner. This reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, which not only protects our waterways but also supports lagoon health, contributing to the long-term sustainability of our environment.
Energy & Resource Resilience with ICTnexus
During his time as manager at MOTU Beachfront Art Villas, Tim played a key role in a German-supported Green Hydrogen Pilot Project delivered in partnership with the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce. He has now joined the ICTnexus team to advance the second stage of the project, supporting Smart Island solutions that enable Pacific communities to monitor energy and resource use, improve efficiency, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The initiative strengthens climate change adaptation by creating more resilient, data-driven island systems and enhancing local infrastructure to better withstand extreme weather events, outages, and long-term environmental change.

Stories that matter
Through our journalistic work for Escape Magazine, the tourism magazine of the Cook Islands, we focus on strengthening community connection and contributing to destination development through purposeful storytelling. Our writing portfolio spans art and culture, renewable energy, tourism awards and sport, capturing the people, ideas and initiatives shaping our island home. By telling local stories with care and authenticity, our work creates pathways between communities and visitors, encouraging meaningful engagement with the Cook Islands beyond the surface experience. Each story is designed to inspire respect for our environment, culture and way of life, while positioning the Cook Islands as a destination rooted in values, creativity and resilience. Through this work, we aim to set the tone for mindful and sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and locals, supporting our communities as they work toward long term prosperity and a shared, sustainable future.
